This set of paintings is a narrative series based on a nine phrase text I wrote. The text is a response to the prompt “Have a conversation with yourself about accountability” from multimedia artist Damon Locks. This conversation is between the woods in Maryland where Harriet Tubman grew up, and Tubman. The text order is determined first, and the paintings are planned and then painted at the same time. This process refers back to my work in artists books about 20 years ago.
